Frequently Asked Questions About Colon Hydrotherapy
Whether you’re new to colon hydrotherapy or considering a series of sessions, it’s natural to have questions. Here you’ll find answers about what to expect, how to prepare, how treatments work, and how to determine what may be right for you.
#1
Why do people choose colon hydrotherapy?
People seek colon hydrotherapy for many different reasons, including constipation, digestive concerns, feelings of bloating or sluggishness, and general wellness.
During the session, the viewing tube allows the client and therapist to observe what is being released, which may provide an opportunity to discuss digestion and bowel habits.
Some people also explore colon hydrotherapy as part of their preparation for certain medical procedures, but this should always be discussed with their healthcare provider first.
#2
How is a colonic different from an enema?
An enema typically introduces a small amount of water into the lower portion of the colon and is followed by using the bathroom.
During a colonic, water gently flows into and out of the colon throughout a session, which typically lasts about 45 minutes. This repeated filling and releasing allows water to reach farther into the colon than a standard enema.
During the session, your therapist may also use abdominal massage and monitor the equipment’s pressure gauge. The viewing tube can provide information about what is being released and may help guide conversations about digestion, hydration, diet, and digestive support.
#3
How is colon hydrotherapy different from the laxative preparation used before a colonoscopy?
Colonoscopy preparation typically uses strong laxatives to rapidly empty the bowel so your doctor can clearly examine the colon.
Colon hydrotherapy works differently. It uses a gentle flow of water into and out of the colon during a treatment session rather than medication designed to rapidly empty the digestive tract.
Some clients choose colon hydrotherapy as part of a broader conversation about hydration, bowel regularity, diet, and digestive habits.
Colon hydrotherapy should not be used as a replacement for medically prescribed colonoscopy preparation unless your healthcare provider specifically recommends it.
#4
How should I prepare for a colonic?
For your comfort, we recommend avoiding food and beverages for about 90 minutes before your appointment. This helps prevent you from feeling overly full, minimizes digestion during the session, and reduces the likelihood of needing to urinate.
#5
How many colonic sessions do I need?
That depends on your goals. Some people simply want to experience one session, while others choose a series of treatments to support ongoing digestive concerns.
A common series may include three to ten sessions, often spaced two to three days apart. Your therapist can help you determine a schedule based on how your body responds.
#6
How should I space my colonic hydrotherapy sessions if I’m doing a series of treatments?
Everyone’s body responds differently. Some clients may schedule sessions on consecutive days, while others prefer to space them two to three days apart.
Colon hydrotherapy is a gradual process of hydration and release, so the ideal schedule can vary from person to person.
#7
What kinds of supplements do you carry at the clinic?
We carry a variety of digestive and wellness products, including herbal cleansing formulas, digestive support supplements, fiber products, and natural ozone-based products.
I previously worked in a supplement laboratory in New Zealand, so I am very selective about the ingredients, quality, and intended function of the products I offer. Check out our full product offerings.
#8
Why might someone use ozone during a colonic or ozone sauna session?
Some clients are interested in ozone therapies as part of their wellness routine. Ozone is sometimes promoted for purposes such as supporting circulation, the inflammatory response, or general wellness.
Because ozone therapy has specific risks and is not appropriate for everyone, we recommend discussing it with a qualified healthcare professional before treatment, particularly if you have an existing medical condition.
#9
Who should not receive a colonic?
Colon hydrotherapy is not appropriate for everyone. Certain medical conditions, recent surgeries, pregnancy, or other health circumstances may require medical clearance or may make colon hydrotherapy inappropriate.
If you have a colostomy, recent abdominal or intestinal surgery, active gastrointestinal disease, significant heart or kidney conditions, or are pregnant, please contact us before scheduling and consult your healthcare provider when appropriate.
We will review your health history to help determine whether treatment is suitable for you.
